No family doctor?
We'll get you one on the phone.

If you cannot get a family doctor in Port Alberni — and a great many people cannot — Argyle Pharmacy can connect you with one. We arrange a phone or video appointment with a licensed physician, usually the same day, and any prescription comes straight back to us to be filled or delivered. No waiting room, no sitting in a walk-in queue for three hours, and no need to already be our patient.

What’s included
📞

Usually the same day

Most patients get a call back within a few hours of asking. Tell us at the counter or over the phone and we will set it up.

🩺

A licensed physician

A real doctor, licensed to practise in British Columbia, who can assess you, diagnose, and prescribe.

🏠

From wherever you are

The appointment happens by phone or video, so you can take it at home, at work, or from a community without a clinic of its own.

💊

Prescription comes back to us

Anything prescribed arrives directly at the pharmacy. We fill it and you collect it — or we deliver it free, often the same day.

🚫

No family doctor required

This exists precisely because so many people in the Alberni Valley do not have one. You do not need a referral or an existing patient file.

🕐

Instead of the walk-in queue

For straightforward problems this is far faster than a walk-in clinic or emergency department, and it frees those up for people who need them.

🔁

Renewals and refills

Run out of a repeat prescription? This is often the quickest way to get it renewed without hunting for an appointment.

🤝

We stay in the loop

Because the prescription comes back here, your pharmacist sees the whole picture and can screen it against everything else you take.

Your appointment

What happens in 30 minutes.

What to bring
  • BC Services Card
  • A list of the medications you currently take
  • Any known allergies or past reactions
  • A phone you can answer, somewhere you can talk privately

Missing any of these will not prevent your appointment.

How it works

How to get an appointment

01

Ask us

Call 778-421-3333, use the booking page, or just say so at the counter. Tell us briefly what it is about so we can flag anything urgent.

02

We book it

We arrange the appointment and tell you roughly when to expect the call. Keep your phone to hand — doctors often call earlier than the slot.

03

The doctor calls you

They will ask about your symptoms, your history and your medications, then decide on treatment. Have your medication list ready.

04

We fill the prescription

Anything prescribed comes to us electronically. Collect it here or have it delivered free across the Alberni Valley.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions.

Tell us you would like to see a doctor and we arrange a phone or video appointment with a licensed physician. They call you, assess you, and send any prescription directly to Argyle Pharmacy for us to fill or deliver.

No. You do not need an existing file with us, and you do not need a family doctor. Anyone can ask.

Usually the same day — many patients get a call back within a couple of hours. It depends on demand, and we will tell you honestly what to expect when you book. Call 778-421-3333 to ask.

Everyday problems that do not need a physical examination — infections, rashes, allergies, prescription renewals, and similar. Anything needing hands-on assessment, imaging or bloodwork will be referred on, and anything urgent belongs at emergency.

The doctor will say so and direct you to the right place — a clinic, urgent care, or emergency. That is a proper outcome, not a wasted appointment; you still get a clinician's judgement on where to go.

Bring your BC Services Card. Physician services for eligible BC residents are covered under Medical Services Plan (MSP). If you are not eligible, ask us first and we will tell you where you stand before anything is booked.

Sometimes, and it is worth asking. BC pharmacists can assess and prescribe for more than twenty minor ailments plus contraception — UTIs, cold sores, shingles, pink eye, eczema and more. If your problem is on that list we can often sort it at the counter with no appointment at all.

Anywhere you can talk privately and hear properly. You do not need to come to the pharmacy for the appointment itself — only the prescription comes here, and even that can be delivered.

Yes, and this is often most useful to people furthest out. The appointment is by phone, and free delivery covers Port Alberni and the Alberni Valley, with Ucluelet, Tofino, Bamfield and the mid-Island arranged case by case.

Yes. The consultation is between you and the physician. We receive the prescription so we can fill it safely, and we do not discuss your care with anyone you have not authorised.
